Favor Kemin sarjakuvapäivillä - osallistu hupikissa -kilpailuun // Favor at The Arctic Comics Festival - participate in the Lolcat Comic Contest competition

Favor -nettipalvelun sarjakuvien valloitus huipentuu Kemin kansainväisillä sarjakuvapäivillä 18.-20.5.2012 Favor-tiimi on paikalla Kemissä kaikkina päivinä. Keskiviikkona 9.5. käynnistynyt Lolcat-sarjakuvakilpailu ratkeaa sarjakuvapäivien viimeisenä päivänä (kilpailukutsu alla).

Favor (www.favor.org) on avoin julkaisualusta joka toivottaa tervetulleeksi kaikenlaisen median ja käyttäjät ympäri maailmaa. Vuonna 2012 palvelun kehityksen kärkenä ovat olleet sarjakuvat: palautetta sarjisartisteilta on kerätty, ja nyt nettisarjakuvien omatoiminen julkaiseminen, ja niillä tienaaminen on helpompaa kuin koskaan. Sarjakuvakilpailun tarkoituksena on saada lisää sarjakuvakäyttäjiä, ja herättää kiinnostusta niin tekijöiden kuin heidän yleisönsäkin keskuudessa.

Favor on maksuton työkalu jonka käyttö ei vaadi erityisiä teknisiä taitoja. Jokaisen julkaisun yhteydessä on automaattisesti Return the Favor -toiminto, joka mahdollistaa artistin ansainnan ilmaiseksi jaetulla sisällöllä! Ansiot tulevat tyytyväisiltä katsojilta vapaaehtoisina maksuina (ns. sähköisen ilmoitustilan osto). Kukin katsoja päättää itse paljonko maksaa, jos maksaa. Minimisumma on $0,10. Favor Company Oy:lle ohjautuu 10% jokaisesta transaktiosta. Maksujärjestelmästä vastaa Suomen Verkkomaksut Oy. Sisältöjen kokeminen ja jakaminen on aina maksutonta eikä vaadi rekisteröitymistä.

Favor Company Oy on netin hyväntahtoisimman julkaisualustan kehittäjä. Rovaniemeläinen start-up on perustettu tammikuussa 2010 ja Favor -palvelu avattiin vuosi sitten kesäkuussa. Favor-hankkeeseen on saatu rahoitusta ELY-keskukselta.

Favor -platform is conquering the world of the comics. The project culminates at The Arctic Comics Festival in Kemi, Finland on 18.-20.5.2012. The Favor -team will be present during the whole festival. On Wednesday 9th of May began Lolcat Comic Contest, that will end on the last day of the festival (call for entries below).

Favor (www.favor.org) is an open publishing platform. All kinds of media and users globally are welcome to use Favor.

This year Favor's focus of the development have been comics. Favor has gathered feedback from artists and now releasing great looking comics and making money with them is easier than ever. With the contest, Favor aims to gather more comic artists and raise awareness with both artists and their audiences.

Publishing content with Favor doesn’t require any specific technical skill. Within each release, there’s a big Return the Favor -button which enables anyone to support the artist by buying a comment directly from them. So the revenue comes voluntarily - if the audience feels like it. Each visitor can pay just as much as they like - from the minimum $0.10 up to… no limits! Favor Company Inc. earns 10% of each transaction. The payment system is by Finnish Web Payments.

Viewing the releases is always open and free.

Favor Company Inc. is the mother of the most warm-hearted service on the web. Rovaniemi-based start-up was founded on January 2010, and Favor platform launched on July 2011. The Favor -project have partly financed with assist of the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.

Santa's Summer Reindeers - Arctic Circles Workshop 29.-31.5.2012 // Pajupororaitopaja 29.-31.5.2012

Santa’s reindeers have an easier time in the summer and build up their strength for the hard work later the year. This workshop will result in a series of temporary reindeer sculptures in the centre of Rovaniemi. Reindeers are very closely connected to Santa Claus, and are well known as part of the image of Rovaniemi as Santa's hometown. In addition, reindeers were also the inspiration for Alvar Aalto in his design for the city plan of Rovaniemi.

Alvar Aalto is one of the most famous Finnish architects. He designed the reconstruction plan of Rovaniemi in 1944-1945. The reconstruction plan of Rovaniemi is a bit like a puzzle, concealing a picture of a reindeer’s: two branches of the central park are outlined as reindeer horns, two are defining reindeer’s head and one its back. That is why it is called "Reindeer Antler Plan". See picture.

There is a series of public sculptures representing reindeers in Rovaniemi, this series is called "Pororaito" (line of reindeers). In 2008 four new sculptures were made and that project’s aim was to increase the attractiveness of Rovaniemi as cultural city and enliven the city's landscape through art. The project was implemented in Lapland in cooperation with the Artists' Association of Lapland. The sculptures were made by Tom Engblom, Risto Immonen, Teuvo Tuomivaara and Sauli Miettunen. Pajassa rakennetaan tuoreesta ja notkeasta pajusta poroaiheisia veistoksia, jotka jatkavat Rovaniemen kaupungin Pororaito-hanketta.

Arctic Circles brings together international students and professionals from various fields of art and design to Rovaniemi, Finland. The task is to explore the intriguing challenges the arctic climate, culture and location poses on art and design by using different methods of involving the users and audiences to art and design processes. The event id part of the World Design Capital 2012 -year.

The Summer School is free of charge and it is possible to get study points! Register soon, some of the groups are already full!
