Tervetuloa yleisölle avoimeen Arctic Circles Tulossavottaan Tiedekeskus Pilkkeeseen 7.6.2012 kello 13-16. Tule, näe, koe, tutustu ideoihin, jätä kommenttisi ja osallistu muotoilupalkintojen arvontaan!

Kesäkoulun toisella viikolla palvelumuotoilijat pitäytyvät rovaniemeläisissä haasteissa, kun taas kestävän kehityksen ja taiteen ryhmät ottavat kurssin kohti Iin ja Inarin kenttäkohteita. Rovaniemellä Arctic Circles kesäkoulun kenttäjakson yhteistyökumppaneita ovat Tiedekeskus Pilke ja Kauppakeskus Rinteenkulma. 

Palvelumuotoilun ryhmä jakautuu ratkomaan Pilkkeen ja Rinteenkulman palvelun kehittämiseen liittyviä haasteita. Inarissa kesäkoulun osallistujat tekevät yhdessä paikallisten toimijoiden kanssa suunnitelmaluonnoksen Kulttuuripuistosta, jossa otetaan huomioon kestävän kehityksen periaatteet. Iin kenttäkohde liittyy kesäkuun alussa järjestettävään Ii Biennaaliin, jossa tuotetaan ekologisesti kestäviä pohjoisen ympäristö- ja veistotaiteen teoksia Iin kulttuuriperintöalueille. Kesäkoulun taideryhmä suunnittelee ja toteuttaa Biennaalin avajaisteoksen teemalla "Riversounds". Arctic Circles kenttäkohdejakso päättyy Tiedekeskus Pilkkeessä järjestettävään Tulossavottaan, jossa ryhmät esittelevät Rovaniemen, Inarin ja Iin antia.

Willow reindeers took over the Lordi Square!

The Art group of Arctic Circles Summer School wondered what the Santa's reindeers do in the summer? Look from the video what they found out!

The workshop led, by Glen Coutts and Maria Huhmarniemi, results in a series of temporary reindeer sculptures in the centre of Rovaniemi. Reindeers are very closely connected to Santa Claus, and are well known as part of the image of Rovaniemi as Santa's hometown. Reindeer theme was very attractive for the international participants of the Arctic Circles Summer School who worked in reindeer's midst for three days.

 

There is a series of public sculptures representing reindeers in Rovaniemi, this series is called "Pororaito" (line of reindeers). In 2008 four new sculptures were made and that project’s aim was to increase the attractiveness of Rovaniemi as cultural city and enliven the city's landscape through art. Arctic Circles' Circle of Art participates in this mission by producing willow reindeers for townspeople's delectation. The project and its results have excited many passers-by who paused to wonder the ongoing work.

Arctic Circles SUMMER School features showers of hail

Yesterday the weather didn't favour the Art group preparing the "Riversounds Ii" - work of art. During the first week in Rovaniemi, the group is going to get acquainted with the theme, plan the artworks, make prototypes and test materials for the final artworks at Ii. It was cold and blowy when they went out on a "Inspiration Journey". By the time they reached the riverside it was HAILING! Finnish Summer truly is full of surprises..

The group joined the Arctic Circles Workshop: Santa´s Summer Reindeers and got to work in the sunshine (for ten minutes before it started to hail again!). In spite of this kind natural phenomenon in late May they hammered away at some bendy natural branches, got to know new people and planned reindeer sculptures for the herd whose premiere is on Friday.

The Arctic Circle participants finished the day by gathering together and having a art discussion in the Napa gallery.

Today it seems to be sunny outside - probably new reindeer sculptures are going to join the herd!

Santa's Summer Reindeers - Arctic Circles Workshop 29.-31.5.2012 // Pajupororaitopaja 29.-31.5.2012

Santa’s reindeers have an easier time in the summer and build up their strength for the hard work later the year. This workshop will result in a series of temporary reindeer sculptures in the centre of Rovaniemi. Reindeers are very closely connected to Santa Claus, and are well known as part of the image of Rovaniemi as Santa's hometown. In addition, reindeers were also the inspiration for Alvar Aalto in his design for the city plan of Rovaniemi.

Alvar Aalto is one of the most famous Finnish architects. He designed the reconstruction plan of Rovaniemi in 1944-1945. The reconstruction plan of Rovaniemi is a bit like a puzzle, concealing a picture of a reindeer’s: two branches of the central park are outlined as reindeer horns, two are defining reindeer’s head and one its back. That is why it is called "Reindeer Antler Plan". See picture.

Pajupororaitopaja Rovaniemellä kävelykadulla 29.-31.5.2012

Pajassa rakennetaan tuoreesta ja notkeasta pajusta poroaiheisia veistoksia, jotka jatkavat Rovaniemen kaupungin Pororaito-hanketta.

- Ajankohta 29.-31.5.2012, klo 9-17 välisinä aikoina 

- Taidepajan vetäjänä professori Glen Coutts ja lehtori Maria Huhmarniemi 

- Osallistujina maisteritason taiteen ja muotoilun opiskelijoita ja ammattilaisia eri maista, n. 20 hlö:n ryhmä  

- Pajaan liittyy avoin työpajapäivä, jolloin kaupunkilaiset voivat osallistua pajuporojen rakentamiseen

- Materiaaleina tuore paju
